The Chip's hockey team defeated the CT. Gators 9-2 Sunday night in Game 1 of the 2011 SCHL Winter Finals.

Chip's took a 1-0 lead after defenseman Jay Pemberton scored with 51 seconds left to play in the first period off assists from forward Mike Bordieri and defenseman Andy Meyer. The Gators quickly responded with just 19 seconds remaining by receiving a goal from forward Andy Smet to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second period. Forwards Scott McDougall and Mike Coppola assisted on the goal.

It didn't take long for Chip's to regain the lead after Pemberton scored on the powerplay at the 14:40 mark of the second period to go up 2-1. Forward Tyler Hancock then added another tally for Chip's less than 2 minutes later to go ahead 3-1.

Play remained close for much of the remainder of the second until the 4:23 mark when Meyer scored a goal off an assist from Hancock as Chip's took a 4-1 lead.

Looking for spark, the Gators fought hard to create scoring chances and it paid off when forward Ryan Pospisil added a goal to cut the lead down to 4-2 going into the third period. Defenseman Steve Harris and forward Tim McNeil picked up the assists.

Despite getting off more shots on goal during the second period, Pospisil's goal would be the last one the Gators would score during the game. Chip's went on to receive another 5 goals to complete the win. Goals were scored by Hancock, Pemberton, forward Nick Mastracchio, and Mike Ramprashad.

Both Hancock and Pemberton recorded hat-tricks, while Mastracchio finished the night with 1 goal and 3 assists.

Chris Groleau made 37 saves for Chips, and Kyle Sagnella made 24 saves for the Gators.
