The Chip's hockey defeated the New Haven Mustangs 6-3 Wednesday night in the second game of the SCHL semi-finals. Chip's will face the CT. Gators in the finals which is a " Best of 3 Series" .
Chip's defenseman Andy Meyer got his team on the board first after taking a pass from forward Bryan Leitch and putting a shot past Mustangs goaltender Dan Ells at the 9:02 mark of the first period. The Mustangs responded with a goal from forward Matt Fallon to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second period.
Defenseman Mike Acabbo then scored at 11:02 mark of the second as the Mustangs took a 2-1 lead. The Mustangs were able to hold the lead until 1:13 was left to play in the period when Chip's forward Bryan Leitch scored to tie the score at 2-2.
Play on both ends of the ice remained competitive to start the third period as each team fought hard and continued to generate quality scoring chances that were turned away by both Ells and Chip's goaltender Chris Groleau.
The game then took a turn in favor of Chip's as they would go on to score the next 4 goals. Forwards Scott Page and Mike Bordieri each recorded a goal, and Tyler Hancock scored twice to take a 6-2 lead.
The Mustangs were able to find the back of the net once more with just 9 seconds left to play on a goal from forward Vanja Duric for a final score of 6-3.
Chris Groleau made 25 saves for Chip's, and Dan Ells made 46 saves for the Mustangs.
