The CT. Gators picked up a second straight victory over the New Haven Mustangs Wednesday night as they won by a score of 6-4.
Gators forward Mike Coppola scored 2 goals that were followed by another pair scored by forwards Ryan Doughan and RJ Gates as they took a 4-0 lead in the first period.
Mustangs forward Mike Morgillo scored at the 3:07 mark to get his team back in the game before the start of the second period.
Forwards Craig Cushing and Vanja Duric then added another 2 goals to put the score at 4-3. Shortly after, Gates scored his second goal of the game to put the Gators ahead by two.
With 5:13 left to play in the second period, Morgillo scored his second of the night as the Mustangs now trailed by a goal with the score at 5-4 as the third period approached.
Both teams tightened up defensively and scoring chances were kept to a minimum during the third. Play continued to go end to end but the Mustangs couldn't manage to put another past Gators goaltender Kyle Sagnella. Defenseman Steve Harris added an empty net goal to seal the win with just seconds remaining in the game.
Kyle Sagnella made 19 saves for the Gators, and Dan Ells made 38 saves for the Mustangs.
