DC wins to continue battle for playoff position. - 3/6/11

Hamden,CT.

As they continue to fight for the fourth and final seed in the SCHL playoffs, Dragon Club picked up a win Sunday night after defeating Chip's by a score of 10-5.

Forward Augie DiMarzo scored a natural hat-trick, and forwards Kyle Tyll and Karl Mauhs each added a goal as DC scored 5 first period goals. Chip's forwards Mike Bordieri and Nick Mastracchio each scored as their team trailed by 3 goals with the score at 5-2 heading into the second.

The next 3 goals all came from DC as Mauhs scored a natural hat-trick. Mauhs finished the game with 4 goals and 2 assists. DiMarzo then added his 4th of the night on an assist from forward Steve Rosenkrantz who recorded a total of 5 assists during the game.

Chip's started to turn it around after receiving goals from forward Tyler Hancock and defenseman Jay Pemberton in the later half of the second period to put the score at 9-4.

Scoring chances continued to be generated by Chip's at the start of the third period after building some momentum from the previous 2 goals, but DC goaltender Jason Szerszen turned each of them away.

DiMarzo then scored his 5th goal of the game at the 9:34 mark to finish the night with 5 goals and 3 assists, and put the score at 10-4. Chip's defenseman Jake Bauer scored with 2:34 left in the game for a final score of 10-5.

Jason Szerszen made 29 saves for Dragon Club, and Chris Groleau made 13 saves for Chip's.
