A quick first period start by the CT. Gators set the tone for the game as they defeated the New Haven Mustangs 6-1 Sunday night.
Forward Andy Smet scored after being setup by forwards Mike Coppola and Scott McDougall at the 10:55 mark of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Gators would then receive another 2 goals from forwards John Poapst and Tim McNeil to go up 3-0 heading into the second period.
The Mustangs had some quality scoring chances during the second period, but each one was turned away by Gators goaltender Kyle Sagnella.
Forward RJ Gates scored with 2:08 left to play in the period as the Gators took a 4-0 lead.
Mustang defenseman Pete Broccoli scored the lone goal of the game for his team on the powerplay at the 9:29 mark of the third period. Despite getting on the board, the Mustangs couldn't get anything else going to get back in the game.
The Gators would receive another 2 goals as both Smet and Gates each scored their second of the game to put the score at 6-1.
Kyle Sagnella made 24 saves for the Gators, and Dan Ells made 33 saves for the Mustangs.
