Gators 8, Dragon Club 4

The CT. Gators defeated Dragon Club 8-4 Wednesday night and moved into third place in the SCHL standings.

Forwards Tim McNeil and Andy Smet opened the scoring as the Gators took a 2-0 lead during the first period. DC fired back with a goal at the 4:03 mark on a goal from forward Steve Rosenkrantz to cut the lead down to 1.

The Gators continued to apply pressure and received another goal from forward John Poapst with 7 seconds remaining in the period to put the score at 3-1.

The next three goals would each come from the Gators. Forward Scott McDougall scored at the 11:08 mark to take a 3 goal lead. Smet added his second of the game, and forward Tory Jacob scored as the Gators went ahead 6-1.

DC started to turn things around late in the second period after goals were scored by forwards Kyle Tyll and Erik Forselius. Tyll then added his second of the night at the start of third period to put the score at 6-4.

The Gators tightened up defensively in the third to put a halt to the DC offense. Poapst then scored his second of the game at the 9:02 mark and forward Mike Coppola added the Gators final goal with 4:30 left to play in the game as his team skated to a 8-4 victory.

Kyle Sagnella made 27 saves for the Gators, and Jason Szerszen made 21 saves for Dragon Club.
