Hamden,CT.

The offensive threat of the Chip’s hockey team was in full force Wednesday night as they skated to a 15-5 victory over Dragon Club. Tyler Hancock, who currently leads the league with 14 goals and is second in points with 21, placed himself all over the score sheet compiling a total of 4 goals and 4 assists for 8pts. It was clearly evident that it didn’t take long for the team to redeem themselves coming off of a 10-5 loss last week to the CT. Redwings.

Forward Chris Meyers set the tempo and a 1-0 lead for his team early in the first period when he was found low in the slot by a pass from Hancock and beat Dragon Club goalie Jason Szerszen. Less than a minute later, defenseman Andy Meyer fired a shot that bounced off of Szerszen’s pads and onto the stick of forward Charlie Dohn who found the back of the net to put his team up 2-0. Dohn finished the night with 4 pts on 1 goal and 3 assists. Chip’s received more first period scoring from forwards Nick Mastracchio who had 3 pts on 2 goals and 1 assists, and Bryan Leitch who scored 1 goal and added 1 assist. Dragon Club forward Pete Alden scored the only goal of the period for his team when he received a cross ice pass in the neutral zone from forward Steve Novodor, and carried the puck in on the left side of Chip’s goalie Chris Groleau beating him with a quick and accurate shot past his blocker. Chip’s would remain in control heading into the second with a 5-1 lead over Dragon Club.

Still showing signs of life, Dragon Club would respond to the 4 goal deficit 0:26 into the second period when forwards Paul Dow and Will Rothfuss set up forward Todd Forselius for the team’s second goal making the score 5-2. Chip’s answered with a goal of their own when Dohn broke into the offensive zone on a 2 on 1, and dished the puck to Hancock who fired a shot past Szerszen and took back a 4 goal lead. Dragon Club scored once more during the second when defenseman Erik Forselius passed the puck through the middle of the neutral zone and sent Alden in on a breakaway, beating Groleau for his second goal of the game. 2 more second period goals were also scored by Chip’s defenseman Jake Bauer on an unassisted breakaway, and another breakaway when defenseman Mike Bordieri, who tallied 4 assists, took a pass from Dohn and then hit Hancock flying into the offensive zone going on to score his second goal of the night, and ending the period with a score of 8-3.

The first few minutes of the third period showed a Dragon Club team eager to get back in the game, but nothing seemed to click for the talented team that struggled to generate the offensive punch that they’re capable of producing. Forward Kyle Tyll had his second consecutive two goal game on back to back goals in the middle of the third period. Tyll’s first was assisted by Dow and forward TJ Schatz, with assists going to defenseman Les Hrapchak and Schatz on his second goal. Despite Tyll’s efforts, Chip’s would also receive scoring on 2 goals from defenseman Jay Pemberton who also had an assist during the game and finished the night with 3 pts. Forward Mario Capobianco, playing in his first game, scored his first goal of the season on a pass from Mastracchio. Chris Groleau recorded 28 saves for Chip’s, while Szerszen made 24 saves for Dragon Club. Chip’s record improves to 4-3 with 8 pts, second in the league, and Dragon Club remains in third with 5 pts and a record of 2-3-1.
