Redwings earn first win of the season. - 11/7/10

Hamden,CT.

The CT. Redwings have struggled defensively since the start of the season, but if their 10-5 win over Chip's on Sunday night was any indication of what's to come, then this is a team that could surprise the rest of league heading into the playoffs.

In a game filled with offense, it was Redwings forward Shawn Nutcher who opened the scoring in the first period off a pass from forward Doug Henrici. It wasn't long before Chip's responded when defenseman Andy Meyer dished the puck to forward Chris Meyers who quickly found the back of net beating Redwings goalie Anthony Avitable. Both teams fired back relentlessly, goal after goal, with the Redwings eventually pulling ahead 6-4 by the end of the second.

With the game still very close within reach, Chip's came out flying in the third hoping to turn things around, but the Redwings were determined to maintain the lead and added another tally to the board off of a one-timer from forward Ben Castiline who received a pass from Doug Henrici coming out of the far right corner. Forward Nick Mastracchio scored the only Chip's goal of the period, while the Redwings were able to add 3 more goals from Henrici, defenseman Matt Walter and forward Mike Nutcher.

Mastracchio and Andy Meyer both finished the game each with 4 points on 2 goals and 2 assists, and Chris Groleau made 25 saves for Chip's. Redwings forward Brian Roche had a hat-trick and 1 assist, and Shawn Nutcher added 3 assists to his first period goal to finish the night with 4 points each. Avitable made 39 saves in net to put the fourth place Redwings record at (1-4) overall. Chip's currently stands in second with a record of (3-3).
